¶ Ainu
¶ Information
Before you start thinking about your character, here is some information about our campaign and which kind of races you can find in this world:
About the world: The campaign will take place in a continent called "Ainu" which means "Holy One" in Elvish. In the world today nobody knows or remembers where this name comes from, you will find out later. The setting will be a mix of Steampunk-style cities and what is called "the feywild". The feywild is in dnd basically where all traditional magical creatures live or come from. So it is strongly a traditional fantasy kind of story with a steampunk touch. Also, there is magic in this world.
This world has been ruled by humans for centuries. The humans believe they are the only ones left, because it has been centuries and everything depicting the other races has disappeared. So there are legends and childrens stories etc but people either think they all died out and some even don't remember that other races used to exist. These races still do exist though, but they have been living in hidden places. For centuries they have been waiting for the moment to come back and take over their rightful place in the outside world, but they seem to be waiting for something. When we meet, I will tell you more about how they have been living hidden and where. You are allowed to create your own villages of origin if you want to and we can add them to my world in a manner that is good for everyone.
¶ About the races:
They races that I imagine existing in this world are the following. It is possible to find all of them on dndbeyond, also when you create your character inside the campaign Imi has created so we have access to all sources.

All the "Halfs" (Half-Elf, Half-Orc, etc etc)
Since you will be moving around the human world and need to hide who you really are, these are the easier races to soooomehow try to hide you are not human when you go to the cities. And autognomes exist everywhere in the human world btw, since it is a steampunkt world. We can talk about its background so it makes sense for the story. There are also other creatures though that I imagine being in this world:
Centaurs
Goblins
Dragonborns
Minotaurs
Satyr
Ogres
These are more difficult to "hide" when you are around, but do whatever you prefer, if you have a good idea of how to walk around being one of them, then go! 
If you have an idea for any other creature please talk to me about it and maybe we will find a reason why this creature exists on this world. I don't wanna prohibit anything, but I would also be happy if it is nothing that makes no sense at all in this find of fairy world. 😅😅 It is easier for me if you stick to the "fairytale" kind of races if you know what I mean haha
¶ Your background:
You can create the background you want and as I already said you can also create your own village and which kind of place it was. But one thing is important: you all know each other and you are not on the human side of history (even if you are human! maybe your human forefathers and foremothers where against this war or where in love with someone from another race or it was their best friend - whatever you prefer), you want all the races to be able to live together in harmony once again. There was a Great War centuries ago between humans and every other creature. Humans had the God Bane and Godess Talone on their side, which is the reason why they ended up winning. Since then most people believe that every other race has died out, but in reality they are living in hiding. The human governments know about this, but they try to hide it. During the Great War there was a group of heroes from different races that tried to stop all of this from happening, but they couldn't find an immediate solution. They achieved on something big though, but you don't know what it was - yet. Nothing out of the ordinary has happened for centuries, but each new generation of ascendants from these great heroes has been trained and prepared for some bigger purpose. Your are these ascendants. Some of you have tried to get away from this line of work, but you were followed in your dreams by someone you don't really know (soon you will know more) and ended up accepting your destiny. You all trained together and have had some "cleaning up" adventures (for example that time when some goblins where suddenly stealing sheep from a human settlement and you had to stop them before humans found out - these humans now think they were taken by wolves). You have had separate adventures as well and you haven't been together all the time. But now you have been called once again to meet up, but this time it feels different and you don't know why. This gathering and your new visions seem to be about something more that just "fooling around".
